Pacific Symphony is looking to contract with a charismatic, detail-oriented individual with an extensive knowledge of fine wine to join our dynamic Special Events team in producing the fourth annual Pacific Coast Wine Festival. This is a part-time (average 20 hrs/wk), contract position reporting to the Director of Special Events.

The Pacific Coast Wine Festival has become one of the three major fundraising events for Pacific Symphony and one of the most respected wine auctions in California. The sold out event held in Newport Beach, features an unmatched lineup of tasting wines from multiple countries. For the 2010 Festival, Italy and Spain showcased Antinori and Vega Sicilia. France and New Zealand were well represented, and the American wines included some of California’s most famous offerings. Equally impressive was the quality of the live and silent auction items. High bidders took home Lafite, Latour, Petrus, Margaux, Harlan, Colgin, Marcassin, Hundred Acre, and many others. The wine tasting, auctions, and wine paired dinner concluded with the tasting of gourmet chocolates and vintage port. The festival set new records for attendance, revenue, and press coverage. It was featured on “The Taste Buds” with Anthony Dias Blue. Pacific Coast Wine Festival raised more than $140,000 to support Pacific Symphony’s artistic and award-winning education programs.

The Pacific Coast Wine Festival Manager will form and maintain relationships with key wineries, wine makers, chefs, and industry executives.

The Festival Manager’s responsibilities will include: • Procure tasting wine • Procure dinner wine • Procure wine donations for the live and silent auctions • Obtain participation of one or two top wine makers and celebrity chefs for live auction paired dinners • Assist in lotting of wine auction items • Reach out to local wine groups to promote the event • Explore co-promotional opportunities with participants in the wine industry The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: • Five or more years wine industry experience • Contacts within the industry, particularly high-end wineries and distributors of same • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, LOVE WINE, manage time efficiently, and be detail-oriented • Must be able to effectively communicate the Pacific Coast Wine Festival and Pacific Symphony value proposition to prospective industry supporters, both verbally and in writing • Meet goals for wine and donations procured • Competence in Word, Excel, Outlook • Must be able to lift/carry 45-50 lbs.

This is a salary and performance based position.

Brand new, state of the art boutique winery in the south of England is recruiting for its exciting new wine making team starting this September. The winery will make wine for just two vineyards (Totally 20Ha) one which has produced still and sparkling wine since 1980, the other specialising in classic sparkling blends with 2010 being the first harvest. Wine making will be overseen by an internationally renowned consultant wine maker.
We are looking for a small team of assistant wine makers/ cellar hands to initially work for a 6 to 12 week period starting in late August/ early September this year. From this we are hoping to identify and employ a permanent wine making team for the new enterprise.

The jobs will encompass all aspects of wine making and viticulture including cellar work, bottling line operation, winery upkeep & hygiene, harvesting and work within the actual vineyards. A background in chemistry and/ or agriculture may be helpful.
